THEME OF THE NIGHT “HAPPY FEET”

September 22, 2010 T.O.P.S (THE OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SPEAKERS) TOASMASTERS

The night (September 22, 2010)is my second time to visit to that gathering not just a guest but the newest member of the club. Last September 8, 2010 with theme of “VALENTINES DAY”, it was my first time to visited TOPS. Mr. Jef Menguin is the one who invited me; he is the President of the club. I don’t really have an idea what is it all about. You know what, no one force me to join. But that time, I was listening for the entire meeting, I was captivated, and amazed how wonderful the topic all about, the wisdom of different speakers, the guest and the toastmasters members. And that night I said to myself, and express to the entire club my desire to join the club. I want to learn with them and to become a better public speaker, to sharpen my skills, and how to write effectively and to bring an impact to whomever audience or listeners I have in the coming days.

That is why I can’t help myself to really attend my second meeting with them, and to listen about their different perspective of a HAPPY FEET. Ms. Liezel is the Table Topics Master of the night, who prepares sort of questions and also a token for those who want to volunteer; we will receive a key chain from STARBUCKS. One of the interesting questions was “IF YOUR SHOES HAVE THE MIND OF THEIR OWN WHERE DO YOU WANT THEM TO BRING YOU.” It was like a beauty pageant moment when Ms. Francesca our guest from IAIM TOASMASTER, a tall and long legged lady with his French boyfriend also cheered with her as she volunteered to take and answer the question with the impromptu speech and really deserves the token for the best topic that she shared to us.   And the other speakers including me, was force to speak in front. I was so shock, I was not prepared. But I take the challenge. And in the end I simply evaluate myself, what things do I need to improve on, and Mr. KC help me to have an idea also what area of my speech I need to improve. It was a wonderful night, we learned a lot from Ms. Jen Lim, for being the speaker of the night, Mr. Lui Banta for the educational talk, with Mr. Uly and Ms. Estelle with the prepared speech, Ms. Avery for introducing the evaluators of the night and also for the very unforgettable evaluation of Mr. Jef Menguin, Mr. Lui Banta, and Mr. KC. And I just want to acknowledge also the presence of Ms. Jenny for being the grammarian of the night. I would indeed clap my both feet for joy. I have gain a word of wisdom from them, and a one big happy family. And now, I am ready for my very first prepared speech for October 13, 2010. I am so excited to “BREAK THE ICE”.

The night is over; another day has been passed, another learning experience for me and for everybody. I smiled in silence as we go home and ride a taxi with Ms. Jen Lim, Carmen, and Mr. Jef Menguin. As the taxi took its way to our house I am daydreaming to let my FEET rest sometimes, go to a spa and relax. =) to say THANK YOU LORDTHAT I HAVE A FEET, AND THANK YOU ALSO FOR MY PATIENT FEET that brought me to MY TOPS TAOSMASTERS DISCOVERY JOURNEY.

I am inviting you also to visit us, with a thought in your mind that we are not forcing you to join but if you want that you really need guidance and help you how to speak in public you are welcome. You could even apply it on your current job. It is worth of your investment. Ror me, I know I invested for the best club in the Philippines. J

God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called

A beautiful story that I read recently POSTED BY RINI AT 2:11 AM 

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climbing. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens. 

"G reat", she thought, her panic rising. "Here I am on a `rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry."She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth."

She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me."

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?"

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!
The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, "Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You."

I think it would do all of us some good to say, "God, I don't know why you want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if you want me to carry it, I will."

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

How to be Happy at Work

Someone said that, “being happy at work depends upon how you’ve successfully finished all the stuffs that your managers, and supervisors told you to do”. Others said that “It is how busy you are for the whole day even if it is not the so called JOB DESCRIPTION of yours”. And also the mindset of some employees that said, “we are happy in our work because we have received our salary with the highest compensation, and we are satisfied with it even if we are not doing our job well”, in short, they just timed in, and out of the office and have not done anything. You know what I mean. 

The sad part is that most of the workers do not know where to get the real happiness and continuously in love in what they do. Even if it is a compilation of work in the office or your responsibility inside your house or anywhere you go,” work” will go with you. The funny thing to be considered is that most of the people around the globe are not educated regarding how to value their work, that’s why they mess up, and end up submitting their resignation to their bosses.

I am guilty that I was once like them. I worked with the travel agency for almost 6 months that’s was my first job after I graduated in college. And I was trying to convince my self that I would soon love what I am doing. At first, I am happy to learn new things, but as months pass by, the fire in my heart faints and the job gets easier each day, until I have discovered that it is just a routine and I am no longer challenge to do extraordinary things. I prayed for two months if I would stay. The company won’t let me go after I have decided to submit my resignation.  But they can’t persuade me to stay, my desire is to go out and spread my wings to a specific work that I want to engage in. My dream is simple; I want to work in an IT company, to use what degree I have graduated in.  I want to be “HAPPY IN WHAT I DO” because it is my passion. Then it happens. I am now in an IT company. I really do maximized what I’ve learned in the academe and excited to excel each day.

The secret of being happy at work is that the “PASSION” itself; you simply LOVE what you are doing. Not because you are motivated with what amount of wages you would receive in 15days, or you are pushed to do what your boss told you so, but the main reason is that you want to feel the fulfillment in a day and to feed up the confidence of your inner man because you have done your best. If you love what you do, you wouldn’t even notice that you almost exceed the 8hours of your working time for the whole day, and for you it is not enough because you want to finish everything that was assigned to you by your supervisor or manager.  If you do your work with all your heart everything would be easy because you are happy inside. The benefit would be, being cheerful at work by then is normal, then stressful nights and hours is no longer your concern, and you didn’t even think that you are burnout with what you are doing. Next is that waking up early in the morning is not a burden to you and you would see your self that you are thankful for another day of learning experience, and lastly, the responsibility that was assigned to you by your boss would be done in a very excellent procedure. Be happy. God is watching over you. Your work is from Him, and you would feel that HAPPINESS if you are in the center of His will. Let me finish it with this words that I learned from Mr. Vivek Wadhwa

“You may feel as if you are kidding yourself when you try hard to focus on what is “good” about your job, but you are indulging in exactly the same mental gymnastics when you are preoccupied with what you “dislike” about it. So you may as well invest your emotional energy in ways that make you feel and function better”.

GOD IS CALLING US TO EXCEL AND TO THROW OFF OUR OLD WAYS

As I go through the study of how to excel in my own,God reminded me once again that everything I do, including my corporate work is for Him. Throughout my 2days in depth study of the book entitled “CALLED TO EXCEL”, by Rex Resurreccion, repentance is highlighted in my inmost being. I could not achieve excellence without God’s help, and strength to move. It’s a good reminder for me that excellence is being achieved through my personal worship to the Lord. It seems like God is whispering in my ear, this words,“Marinel, at end of the day, I am your coolest and ultimate Boss “God Almighty”, the one who entrusted you of the talents you have right now, though I have given the authority to your manager, CEO, to lead you, it is my way of showing you in human form that I am Sovereign”. 

God recalled to me the urgency of excellence, and it sums up that work, professionalism, excellence, time management, my loyalty and integrity for the company, and savings that comes from the salary I got from the company where I belong today is for His glory alone.Who moved me to work anyway, this verse is my everyday motivation to energize and remind me that God is the deepest reason why I work; “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord not for men, since you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the LORD CHRIST you are serving. – Colossians 3:23-24”.

He has entrusted me of the talents I have now, and He is calling me to use those talents to the extent of my ability for the benefit of my company, because I know in the “Day of Judgment”, I am accountable to the Lord of how I used those talents, and if I meet its purpose and I am really thrilled to hear in His time these words from Him, “though good and faithful servant” – Matthew 25:21, Luke 19:17. A wake up call for me that mediocrity is not applicable in every ways, though we as Filipinos habitually adapt that principle, but God Himself don’t want us to do the better but our best, that’s why excellence comes in, He designed us for excellence.

I want to be extraordinary person, and an extraordinary employee as God called me to be. I want to be happy in everything I do, and I do not want to be the source of the problem, but the solution of the problem in the company where I work in. I much loved to move with excellence than to hang about what I am today. I believe that I could improve more, I could reach the goal, and I could contribute for the company’s growth. I am planting in the tablet of my heart what I have read; it is a long term practice of walking through my life’s journey of discovering how wonderful God is, and how He designed me to become excellent.

One-by-one, piece-by-piece of His word, I want to encourage my inner man. I don’t want to be mediocre individual but a unique individual who is pursuing excellence. “Marinel, one step at a time, and do not let your self turn back from the origin”. As I feed up my mind, and my heart, I desired to walk at it; this is one of unending course of learning. It motivated me more to foresee the crops of my sacrifices in the future. I would like to see the outcome and my productivity as I gauge it in my own as part of my delicate procedure of discipline.

Being an optimist is what I used to, I hate pessimistic views, because in my knowledge of knowing the LORD in His word, “nothing is impossible with Him”, -Luke 1:37. If I would entertain negative views, I am putting inside the box, what the Lord could do in every circumstance arise.

For me, part of being excellent is being positive, in my outlook in life; it boosts up my confidence also to face each situation with courage and determination to overcome what life could bring. Excellence also for me is a choice and it is a step-by-step process. My goal is to reach the summit and if this day will end that I am dissatisfied with my work, I have another opportunity for tomorrow to excel, explore and convert the depressing moment into an open door to apply what should I get from the previous day of experience. And also focusing on to what I could do to improve myself and not to mind the business of others as I have my own journey of discovering what is in me. To be more cheerful and productive to be a part of the companys achievements.

I have finished the book with excitement and I truly desired to soar high like eagles. I am now in the journey of applying everything I have learned. It is not a one day process I know, but in the end I want to achieve my end goal my main goal is to glorify Him.

He is Unsearchable, Indescribable and yet HE knows me

He is Unsearchable, Indescribable and yet HE knows me..
I know that in the days of my struggles, He have seen me, He knows my hearts desire. He knows everything what was happened to me in the past, the days of my anguish and pain. He is my everlasting God.


For in times of my sorrow He catches every tear that falls down in my eyes. When I cried for help He runs just to hug me and remind me that He is with me. And remind me that I am His Princess whom He loved.
My Jesus, my Prince, the Lover of my Soul. He has promised not to leave me alone. He fights with me in every battle that I face in life. He is sweet, that every word that came out from His mouth is precious in my ear. His words are my strength. His promises are my defense. I know that He is ready to rescue me in the presence of my enemies who are after my defeat. And God promises me that He is not as sleep and the days of my enemies will came to pass. And I can be victorious in my walk with Him in righteousness.
Daddy God, February 22, 2010, this is day of revival to me. You revived my soul once again; God, You bring back the fire. Thank You for reminding me again about Jesus “my first love.” I will continue to run the race for His glory to fulfill His will for me. I would choose to persevere. I will endure every trial that comes my way. You are my all in all. You are amazing. He is Unsearchable, Indescribable and yet HE knows me.
